Dr. N Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore has been awarded ‘Lifetime Recognition Award’ by Confederation of Horticulture Association of India (CHAI) on 28th May 2019. The award has been bestowed at International Conference of Innovative Horticulture held at Pantnagar, Uttarakhand.
CHAI was established in the year 2010 with the commitment of the furtherance of horticultural research, education and development. The Confederation has instituted various awards to recognize the services of individuals, institutions and farmers for excellence in Horticultural science, teaching and farming. CHAI- Lifetime Recognition Award recognizes outstanding contributions and providing leadership in specific crop commodity.
The award had been conferred this year (2019) to Dr. N Kumar for his outstanding contribution in the field of horticulture and academic leadership focussed on human resource development in agriculture.
Dr. Kumar, thirteenth Vice-Chancellor of TNAU was a recipient of two fellowships, five gold medals and nine medals in his career spanning over a period of 35 years. He also played an active role in the development of 10 improved crop varieties and many production technologies in Horticulture.
